Although Dr. Schlieve is an expert in the surgical management of oral cancer, salivary cancer, jaw diseases and oral conditions, he recognizes that the absolute highest level of care can only be achieved by a team of experts. Working in the division of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Schlieve collaborates with the UT Southwestern Dental team and can facilitate the care necessary for your teeth and gums before and after treatment. Unlike many other surgeons or cancer centers who do not have a dental specialist on-hand, Dr. Schlieve has a team of oral health care specialists and works side by side to provide optimal oral care.
In addition to his team of dental experts, Dr. Schlieve incorporated the resources of a University hospital into patient care system. UT Southwestern Medical Center is home to the National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in North Texas, the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. This designation is the gold standard for cancer centers and identifies excellence in patient care, research, education, and training. It signifies a commitment to providing a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that involves clinical trials when appropriate, leading researches in cancer care, and consistent outcomes. According to a recent study from the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, cancer deaths are 25% lower at NCI-designated cancer centers like the Harold C.
